Pareto Dominance Analysis
Find nondominated alternatives across cost, weight and other criteria. Inspect dominators and the frontier for two selected criteria.
What is dominance?
Alternative A dominates B when A is at least as good in every criterion and strictly better in at least one. Set each criterion to minimize or maximize. Two alternatives with identical values do not dominate one another. The tool finds the nondominated set among the alternatives entered. It does not generate new designs.
Entering the lists
Enter each criterion as a name followed by min or max. Each alternative needs a name and its values in the same order. Separate fields with tabs or semicolons and put each record on a new line. Decimal commas remain part of numbers. Do not use thousands separators: 1.250 is read as 1.25. Do not include headers. Use one consistent unit for each criterion. Up to 200 alternatives and 12 criteria are supported.
Example and chart
When both cost and weight are minimized, A=(1,3), B=(2,2), C=(3,3) leave A and B on the frontier. Both dominate C. The table uses every criterion. The chart joins nondominated points for the two selected criteria only. Joining lines do not represent feasible new alternatives. With three or more criteria the table set can differ from the plotted frontier.
Limits
No scores, weights or financial assumptions are assigned. A final decision also depends on requirements outside the data. Comparisons use parsed numbers without rounding or a tolerance for measurement uncertainty. Values use browser numeric precision. The table displays the values that were read.
Frequently asked questions
How do you calculate a Pareto frontier?
For example, when smaller values are better for both criteria, options A(1, 3), B(2, 2) and C(3, 3) leave A, B on the Pareto frontier. An option dominates another when no worse in every criterion and strictly better in one, without assigning criterion weights or generating new designs.
