Conditions and notes
Theoretical mass at nominal thickness and 20 °C density. Steel 7850, stainless EN 1.4301 7900, aluminium EN AW-1050A 2700, copper Cu-ETP 8930, brass CuZn37 8440 kg/m³. Thickness tolerance and coatings are not applied.
- Each density was found with the same value in documents from two separate publishers.
- The sample sheet sizes are for convenience and do not claim market availability.
- In the inch unit system thickness is shown in inches, mass per area in lb/ft² and sheet mass in lb.
Theoretical mass per square metre is m = ρ × t. For 1 mm steel sheet it is 7850 kg/m³ × 0.001 m = 7.85 kg/m². Sheet mass is the mass per square metre times the sheet area, a 1000 × 2000 mm sheet has an area of 2 m².
Density depends on the alloy. The table uses the density of one stated alloy for each material. For another alloy the mass changes in proportion to the density.
