Conditions and notes

Wall thicknesses follow the ISO 4065 relation and rounding rule and were compared cell by cell with manufacturer charts. PN is based on water at 20 °C for 50 years with a design coefficient C = 1.25, giving a design stress of 8.0 MPa for PE100 and 6.3 MPa for PE80.

  • eₙ = dₙ / (2S + 1). S is the theoretical series value from ISO 4065 Table 2, for example 5.0119 for S 5. The calculated wall is written to three decimals. It is rounded down when the second decimal is 0 and the third is 4 or less, otherwise up to the next 0.1 mm. A plain dₙ / SDR division therefore gives a different result in some cells, for example 5.4 mm rather than 5.3 mm for 90 mm SDR 17.
  • ISO 4427-2 and the manufacturer charts raise the wall in seven small cells for national requirements: 2.0 mm for 20 mm SDR 11, 25 mm SDR 13.6, 32 mm SDR 17 and 40 mm SDR 21, and 3.0 mm for 20 mm SDR 7.4, 25 mm SDR 9 and 32 mm SDR 11. The table shows these product values. The ISO 4065 calculation gives 1.9, 2.8 and 2.9 mm in these cells.
  • PN = 20 × σs / (SDR − 1), with σs = MRS / C. The result is rounded to the R10 series. The calculation gives 6.4 bar for PE100 SDR 26 and 6.3 bar for PE80 SDR 21. ISO 4427-2 and tables based on it state PN 6 for both cells, while the DIN 8074 table states PN 6.3. Because the sources differ, both cells are blank.
  • A blank cell means two independent manufacturer charts did not give the same value for that diameter and SDR. For 90 mm SDR 41 two manufacturers give 2.3 mm while ISO 4065 gives 2.2 mm. There are no two reliable sources for 560 and 630 mm SDR 7.4.
  • PN values are for water at 20 °C. Gas pipes are selected with another design coefficient and pressure limit. For warmer water apply the manufacturer's derating factor.
  • CSV download is unavailable because the sources do not establish permission for reuse.
