UNF Thread Chart (#0 to 1 1/2 in)
UNF thread chart from #0 to 1 1/2 in: TPI, major diameter, pitch, pitch diameter, minor diameter and approximate tap drill. mm and inch, labelled drawing, ASME B1.1.
For preliminary reference and dimensional comparison. Thread class tolerances, stress area and joint safety are not included. Confirm against the ASME B1.1 edition and the tap manufacturer before manufacture or final selection.
Dimension drawing and symbols
- d
- Major diameter mm
- P
- Pitch, 1/TPI mm
- d2
- Basic pitch diameter mm
- D1
- Basic minor diameter (internal) mm
On the basic profile d = D and d2 = D2 for external and internal threads. D1 is the basic minor diameter of the internal thread, not a manufacturing limit. The profile angle is 60°.

Conditions and notes
ASME B1.1 Unified inch screw thread, UNF series, basic profile. Class tolerances (1A, 2A, 3A, 1B, 2B, 3B) are not applied.
- TPI and major diameters were compared with three separate publishers. Pitch and minor diameters are calculated from the relations and checked to four decimals against two separate numeric tables.
- The approximate tap drill is d − P, not rounded to a standard drill size. Check the tap manufacturer's chart for the actual thread percentage and drill.
- 1 inch UNF has 12 threads per inch. 1 inch with 14 threads per inch is the special UNS series and is not listed.
- The metric and inch switch changes only the display. Calculations use the exact inch definition (1 inch = 25.4 mm).
- CSV download is unavailable because the sources do not establish permission for reuse.
UNF is the fine series of the Unified inch screw thread. For numbered sizes the major diameter is d = 0.060 + 0.013 × N inch, for fractional sizes it is the nominal size itself. Pitch is P = 1/TPI.
Pitch and minor diameters follow the ASME B1.1 basic profile with exact coefficients: H = √3/2 × P, d2 = d − 3H/4 = d − 0.649519P, D1 = d − 5H/4 = d − 1.082532P. Class tolerances are not included. The approximate tap drill d − P is a preliminary choice.
