Material Unit Price Comparison

Compare two offers by package quantity and extra charges in a common quantity unit.

Compare a common quantity

For each offer add delivery and other extra charges to the total material price, then divide by the quantity purchased. Both quantities must use the same unit. Do not enter kilograms for one offer and tonnes for the other. A price of 100 plus 20 in charges for 10 units gives a unit cost of 12. A price of 200 for 20 units gives a unit cost of 10.

Limits

Quality, delivery time and payment terms are not scored. Both offers must use the same tax basis. This compares unit costs only. Mandatory full package purchases and the value of leftover material are excluded.

Separate package size from unit price

Offer A contains 24 kg of material for 240 plus 48 currency units of extra costs. Unit cost is (240 + 48) / 24 = 12. Offer B contains 50 kg for 550 plus 25 of extra costs, giving (550 + 25) / 50 = 11.5. The displayed difference A minus B is 0.5 and B has the lower unit cost. These prices are neither purchasing advice nor market data.

If only a small quantity is needed, the larger package's unit advantage may not reduce the cash outlay. The tool does not confirm that partial packages can be bought. Assess leftover usability and storage separately. Enter extra costs such as shipping as totals for the offer, not costs per unit.

Before comparing, match quantity units, quality grade and delivery scope. Using a price including tax for one item and a price excluding tax for the other does not give a fair comparison. The difference is A minus B as an amount per unit, not a percentage. A negative value means A is cheaper. Its sign identifies the lower price without scoring quality or delivery suitability.

Frequently asked questions
