Concrete Volume Calculator

Concrete volume in cubic metres for slabs, footings and columns, with waste allowance, truck count and weight.

How do you calculate concrete volume?

Concrete volume is the product of the three dimensions of the element. For a rectangular slab or footing, volume = length × width × thickness. With all dimensions in metres the result is in cubic metres.

For round columns and piles the base is a circle: volume = π / 4 × diameter² × height.

Why add a waste allowance?

When ordering, an allowance is added on top of the net volume. Concrete left in the pump line, spillage, formwork deflection and uneven ground all use it up. On site it is usually 3 to 10 percent. This calculator shows it separately, so you see both the net quantity and the amount to order.

Example

A footing of 4.2 m × 3.8 m and 0.6 m thick has a net volume of 4.2 × 3.8 × 0.6 = 9.576 m³. With 5 percent waste the order is 10.05 m³, which is 2 loads of an 8 cubic metre truck mixer.

Limits

This tool gives volume and quantity only. Use separate tools for concrete grade, mix proportions and reinforcement. Split sloped, stepped or hollow elements into parts and calculate each one separately.
